Any recomendations on a destination for a 5-7 day backpacking trip in October in the United States

Appalachian Trail. Start in Goergia, will be cool in the evenings and night so dress accordingly.

Virginia. Hike part of the Appalachian Trail. The fall foliage usually peaks in color the third week of October. l would start in Shenandoah National Park and hike south to Roanoke. That would be about 150 trail miles.

Try the Pikes Peak,Divide Colorado area.The Aspens will be Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Superior Hiking Trail in Northeast MN. Runs along Lake Superior. Amazing views and beautiful fall colors.

Depends on what you want to see, and how hard you want to work. If you want to see mountains and scenery, forget about anything east of the Mississippi, and look to the rockies. Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado are awesome, and the National Parks there are world famous. If you like a better climate, head to the west coast and check out California. But my honestly you are not going to wanna miss the rockies.

Central Adirondacks in upper New York State. You will not be sorry.

Definitely the central sections of the Appalachian Trail.

any mountain trail they r all good l have been to them all but not every were or all trails, make sure u have a god animal repellent for those stupid things we do. Bear & mountain lions also like the mountain trails u might never see one but do not count on it. be safe prepare & enjoy ur self & others. some thing hikers overlook that hunters do not. the hunters ear l can hear a cat walking across the neighbors front lawn in the after noon hours with an investment of less than $100.00.

By October, the Aspens in CO r past their prime in the high country, but the weather is *usually* still reliable.

You might consider the Oregon Cascades areas like the Three Sisters Wilderness or the Mount Jefferson Wilderness. Late Indian Summer if you're lucky, but u can usually expect solid weather until November. Very few folks.

Also, the Larch will be turning in the Northern Washington Cascades, but October may be late for the weather to hold.

Of course, canyon country of the southwest, like Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument should be solid weather-wise, but little to no water anywhere. More people likely, too.

Then of course, there is Steens Mountain in the Oregon High Desert. Still has water, & the weather is cold at night, but solid during the day. The place is crawling with elk hunters in October.

go to Missouri, we have the Ozark Trails and l have done a five day backpacking trip that could have been longer or shorter depending on where we wanted to go and all that. There a many great trails and rivers to follow. There is a site you can go to as well.

If you happen to want to hike in the NE part of the US, check out the Loyalsock Trail in northcentral PA. It has it all: waterfalls, very scenic vistas, great primitive campsites, and seclusion from most of the crowds.

There are a few miles of road walking but all of the rest is on trails through PA state forest land and World is End State Park.
