l have only gone camping twice in the last ten years, but am planning a 10 day trip to Arcadia in August.

What things have you forgotten or not thought of bringing to camping trips in the past?

Myself and 12 year old girl and 10 year old boy.

make sure you bring plenty of bug spray. in the woods there are bugs every where even if you can not see them. ten days is a long time. hope you have enough food.

On my hiking trip to Utah 2 years ago, l forgot the tent. Literally, the tent that l was supposed to sleep in. l had been planning this trip for like a year, and l was in such a huge hurry, l forgot my tent. Had to drive all of the way back to Ohio to get it, after l drove all of the way there.

First aid kit, extra water, something to start the fire, cooking supplies, a pillow. Maybe you should make a list?

Garbage bags
Steak knives
Cups (hot & cold)

1) dint forget to take some common medicines and first aid kit.
2) take some small indoor games else you will get bored sitting inside your if it rains..
3) plenty of snacks.
4) and a pack or two of glucose (do not ask for reason.)
5) a small table fan powered by batteries for sometimes the weather is really hot and sticky
6) and finally as said by everybody - a bug spray..

Matches. Toilet paper, paper towels, Plastic pan for hand washing and dish washing, dish soap, hand soap, towels to dry hands & dishes. socks, comb, hair brush. wash cloth, tooth paste & brush, change of shoes--in case one pair gets wet, beef jerky.
Sounds like fun. Good luck. lol

Skin so soft by avon, better than mosquito repellent. Toilet paper, paper towels, regular towels & wash clothes. Old newspapers to put on picnic tables. Toothpaste. MATCHES, extra mantals for coleman lanterns unless u r using battery powered. Kleenex, extra socks, extra clothes for kids, marshmellow, graham crackers & dark chocolate squares for ''smores''
A sharp knife, for trimming hot dot & marshmellow sticks. Kindling..trust me on this, dry precut kindling is better for starting fires than damp twigs.
A bucket, for water, a shovel. an umbrella, garbage bags, for all kinds of things, a 10 foot piece of clothes line, to hang wet clothes on, sun screen.

First aid kit, powered charcol in case of plant poisoning, AND calamine lotion, for bug bites & rashes, small ice packs, to keep in ice chest to cool down burns, aloe for sunburn, Tylenol, ace bandage, pot for heating water, & water jug in camp

flashlights for everyone & batteries.
Cards, board games, extra socks, extra shoes for everyone crayons or markers, blank paper to draw on, have kids do a map of the area. it will be fun, birding book, or book on local area, see what kind of plants u can identify. Have fun, turn off cellphones & do not take the laptop!

Having been to Arcadia NP a few years back, l have a suggestion that l do not see mentioned.

A camera for everyone who is going!! The scenery in the park and on Mt Desert Island is absolutely awesome!! The kids will enjoy having their own camera, even if it is an inexpensive one for them to use.

No matter how much you plan, you're gonna forget Something!
l just returned from a week long fishing trip to Ky Lake. l forgot my tackle box. Had to go to the nearest bait & tackle shop to basicly start over. l now have two fully stocked tackle boxes.
Make a list & check it twice as you're packing. The first thing on this list should be a first aid kit

l usually think it is going to be warmer than it ends up being, & l end up being too cold. You can never bring enough socks!

l also usually end up running out of food. You & ur kids r going to eat twice as much on this trip than u normally do because u r going to be twice as active. Bring lots of snacks & fruit, & sweets for the nighttime campfire. Make meals like spaghetti that r high in carbs & can be thrown in the icechest for lunch the next day too. Try & keep ur meals as similar to what u would make at home so ur kids do not get sick of hotdogs & beans.

This may sound weird, but u said ur daughter is 12? Even if she has not already started her period, u might stash some pads/tampons away too. If she starts while on the trip, u will be sorry in a big way if she does not have a way to deal with it. Ten days in the woods could do it to her u know? Better safe than heading-home-early-sorry!

Have fun!

Sunblock, camera, first aid supplies, soap, toilet paper, these are some things that have been overlooked on our family adventures over the years.
