we have taken potatoes and wrapped in foil and buried under the hot coals and it bakes them. Also if you have wire rack you can cook about anything. Check your local outdoors store or wal mart

how about some camp fire pizza. piece of pita bread (bomboli works great) sauce , mozz. cheese pepperoni , salami, bacon (thats what l use but you can choose and toppings, place tin foil over top of camp fire grill. keep a eye on it , it can burn quickly. its the best pie you will ever taste in the woods.

Eggs in a hole. cut a circle in a slice of bread, butter both sides, (prepare a cup with an cracked egg in it, beat it) put the bread on an outdoor skillet or pan & pour the egg in the middle.. Hobo is taco. This one is fun! Can use fruits, vegetables, meats, clams, eggs, breakfast foods. (Be sure meats & shellfish r cooked already & the vegetables should be boiled in water for a few minutes before.. take aluminum foil, make it into a pocket like a cake pan.. add whatever u would like stewed together.. include butter & spices.. cover the top with more foil, & place it on the side of the fire grate or on the hot rocks around the campfire.. let it cook for about 30 minutes.. One man omelette.. Crack an egg or more depending on person making it into a Ziploc baggy, add spice, bacon, peppers, sausage, ham, diced potatos.. or any other breakfast item. Zip it up & shake it for a minute.. Place baggies into a boiling pan of water & let them cook for a few minutes. You can then eat it from the bag or on a plate. shish kabobs on a stick. make a shish kabobs from ur breakfast foods, vegetables, meats on a hot dog stick. cook them over the open fire.. Have fun!

Campfire Peaches & Cream

4 fresh peaches, washed, cut in half & pitted
1/4 cup cream cheese
8 chocolate kisses

Fill peach pit holes with cream cheese & one piece of chocolate per
half. Place two peach halves together & wrap with aluminum foil.
Cook around fire 5-10 minutes until peaches have softened and
chocolate has melted. Transfer cooked peaches to a bowl & eat with
a spoon.

Goat in Honey Yield 4 servings

1/2 lb (250 g) lean boneless goat
1 tablespoon hosin sauce (available from Chinese stores)
1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
2 tablespoons cornstarch (cornflour)
3 tablespoons groundnut peanut oil

For the seasonings:
1 tablespoon light soy sauce
1 teaspoon brown vinegar
1 teaspoon Shaoxing rice wine (available at Chinese stores) or dry sherry
1 teaspoon ginger juice (use a garlic press)
1 teaspoon honey
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon cornstarch (cornflour)

Slice the goat across the grain into thin slices. Place in a dish & mix well with the hoisin sauce & sesame oil. Dust with the cornstarch to coat the meat pieces evenly. Heat the groundnut oil in a preheated wok until moderately hot. Stir-fry the goat for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly to separate the slices. Remove & drain well.

Pour off the oil, leaving 1 tablespoon behind, & stir in the seasonings ingredients. Bring to a boil. Return the goat to the wok & stir quickly over maximum heat until the seasoning ingredients coat the goat slices. Serve immediately.

..ooo.my kids loved the idea of cookin on a fire..get them some heavy duty tin foil, and a vaiety of 'stuff'. like hamburger, hotdog's, potatos, premixed biskit stuff, shis-ka-bob sticks, loinstrips cut smal , and instant dry soup mix for seasoning..
..they will have a great time trying to eat themselves into a coma.. my oldest got to the point he could cook popcorn in tin foil..thats saying a lot..!!..try it sometime.

l have not seen my favorite one now u have to be creative & make the handle longer for the little ones & burning it is OK cause u want to excite the little ones & some of the bigger ones too. they get a kick out of it. OK there not real cheep but not real expensive eather JIFFY POP POPCORN over an open fire totally cool. bring several cause u will want to try it too. the burnt ones make great food for the small fish along the river/.lake edge & feeds the birds very well in the area too. have fun.

Steaks over hot coals taste great, build a good hot fire & let it burn down to the coals, put a grilling grate over them & toss the steaks on (the cut of meat & type of animal is ur choice, I'd stick with beef on the first try) onto the grate. The high heat seers the outside of the meat, keeping in the juices, giving u one of the juiciest steaks ever.

Bring a dutch oven along is weight is not a concern. You can cook nearly anything in it. Pick some wild blueberries & add them to any cake mix & put in the dutch oven & surround it with coals. Presto, an excellent desert.

pan fried meat is great, I've done this with elk but it can work for anything that used to walk, take some butter or non stick spray & grease up a pan. Dip thinly sliced meat strips (3/16'' or so) in flour & ensure they r well covered so prevent burning of the meat. The meat will cook fast, only 2 or so minutes per side depending on thickness.
