Goin campin this weekend up in the Adirondacks...we will be staying in cabins, and my friend who stayed at the same place last year said that he got bitten up by bugs pretty bad while sleeping in the cabin.

Soo...is there anything l can do to prevent bugs from getting in?Anything l could spray or put on, in or near the cabin?Anything on or around the bed, or on my skin?Anything to prevent getting bitten up while sleeping?

l have a big citronella candle that will burn for 40 hours, l could put that in the room, or l could sprinkle lie around the outside of the cabin.Or put some fabric softener dryer sheets on the sides of the beds, l heard bugs do not like them.Those are my only ideas.
I am bringing some Bear Mace, l could probably use that on black flies.

get a few of those bug zappers with the blue light get a couple more of those citrinella candles and just put it all outside. l also dont think they like incense

l use mosquito coils for the mosquitos.. l also spray the bedding with bug spray early in the day, so by nightime the smell is gone. Black flies though r a different story.. though luckily they usually do not come inside.. But if u r going outside in black fly season, use plenty of deep woods off to keep the black flies away. or u can also use bounce dryer sheets rubbed on ur skin..This time of year is iffy for Black flies, They r usually around in late may til mid june in the adirondaks. They will attack in a swarm, so if u see a cloud of them beware.. One of the worst mistakes l made once with black fies was to leave my car window open while parked for camping.. They got into the car, & it was a nightmare all the way home.

Drink lots of beer and the bugs will fall down drunk when they bite you.
Now for real, use Avon Skin So Soft. It will keep bugs off you. They hate the smell.

there is this kind of cloth you can wrap around your whole bed and it has little holes in it so air can get in but bugs cant get in it should cost like $20

1. Exclusion - do not let any bugs in the cabin.
2. Peaceful Coexistence - use repellent, long sleeves, long pants, & sleep with a bug net over ur bed.
3. Genocide - prior to entering ur 'shelter', fumigate with insecticide.

Citronella candles have no effect on Adirondack bugs. If anything, the light will attract them.

Fabric softener? The 'fresh' smell will make their meal more enjoyable. Plus, no static cling.

l would spray around the outside of the cabin with a can of ant, roach, fly & spider spray. If bugs r still getting inside then perhaps u could hang a mosquito net over ur bed or cot. Sealing up with windows with caulk or repairing the screens might help? You might consider bringing all ur own bedding (air mattress, sleeping bag & pillow) in case of bed bugs & other mites or apply a product with DEET to ur exposed skin before bed. l think citronella candles & mosquito coils r for outdoor use only? l would not advise breathing that stuff for very long without good ventilation.

Yeah, bugs can be a BIG problem and l do not think there is any way to entirely wipe them out while camping, but, there are ways to co-exist with the problem. At night, the main thing is to try and not attract them in the first place. Keep all lights off if possible, as they will attract the bugs. Also, a campfire will help ward some of them off. Avon does make a good bug repellent that is water proof. It is in the blue tube.
