Family of 4 - Kids ages 4 and 2. Any interesting fun foods to make while camping. We've got that samdwitch making - and have made grilled cheese, and pizza sandwitches, even poop tarts in it! LOL Any other things to cook over the fire? Doesnt have to be in that maker just in general. Thanxs

Good Old fashioned hotdogs on a stick..if u want to mix it up u can make pigs in a blanket on a stick.. If u poke around the internet they even have recipe is to make rolls on a stick.. l really like the dinners where u put everything in a foil pouch put it over the flames for a bit & open & eat.. everyone gets an individual meal & that seems to work.. And one more idea for ur sanwich thing would be to bring some pie filling & whip cream. yummy... And dont forget the banana boats.. just google for the recipe.. my friends mom used to make them when l was younger..

When our entire family goes camping - grandma & grandpa, adults, the grandkids, & maybe friends - we keep the pie irons busy most of one day. One trick we learned is to use butter-flavored cooking spray to generously coat the pie irons before each use. We have 4 regular irons & 2 waffle irons. If u can think of it, we have probably have tried making it in our pie irons. l sometimes prepare some 'fillings' at home, & keep them in the cooler, so the wait time is reduced when we get hungry. ''Are they ready yet?''

>> Use Jiffy brand mixes & made pancakes & waffles - the pie iron people also make waffle irons. Make sure ur irons r well oiled & hot. Great for breakfast or snacks.
>> We slice potatoes & make potato chips (like home fries).
>> Prepare taco meat at home. Fill soft flour tortillas with meat, cheese, & whatever else u like in a burrito. Fold to completely enclose, & grill in ur pie iron. Ole!
>> One night when camping we usually have stew, chicken or beef. Make the gravy real thick. The next day u can use the left overs to make ''pie iron pot pies, using a spoon or two of stew between the bread slices. Top with extra gravy. Yummo!
>> Besides the usual bread, experiment with tortillas, egg roll wrappers, & refrigerated biscuits, crescent rolls, or pizza crust.

A Sunday morning favorite for our family is ''Eggs-In-A-Bag''.
Get a supply of lunch bags. Cut bacon strips in half & line bottom of bag. Crack egg into cup, then gently add over the bacon. Okay, u can break the yolks, or even scramble them if u prefer. Sprinkle with salt & pepper. Fold over the top of the bag several times to seal. You will want a medium hot batch of coals under ur grill, no flames. If u can hold ur hand over the coals, at grill height, for a count of 3 or 4 u have a medium heat. After 5 minutes peek in to see if they r done yet. (even after years of doing this we still keep checking - this is an art, not a science) The bacon will not get crispy brown, but it will be fully cooked. When finally ready rip open the bags & enjoy. You can eat them as is, or top them with cheese, salsa, or whatever else tickles ur tongue.

6 c. plain flour
1 tsp. salt
1/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. baking powder
2 c. water
Butter
Jelly
Biscuit mix may be substituted for above ingredients.
Mix dry ingredients thoroughly. Add shortening & mix into dry ingredients with a fork. Add water to desired consistency & mix well. Pinch off a piece of dough & roll to elongate & flatten dough. Wrap around a stout finger- sized stick in a spiraling twist. Knead all spaces together. Bake over coals, turning frequently until doughboy pulls off stick with ease. Fill hole with butter & jelly.

Anything wrapped in tinfoil -- potatoes, vegetables, sweet potatoes, hamburger patties. Let the kids do the wrapping, just make sure to give them a lot of foil, and if it is not really neat, who cares. Place the wrapped item either on the grill or right in the fire (near the edge) and they can watch it cook. You can tell them how ''they'' are cooking. Just be careful opening, do that part for them, there can be a lot of steam, and let the item cool.

Campfire Banana Boat - This popular camping dessert is fun & very easy, & requires no dishes - u eat it straight from the peel!

Ingredients

* 1 Banana
* Mini marshmallows
* Chocolate chips

Procedure

1. Peel back a 1 1/2 inch (4cm) wide strip of peel from the inside curve of the banana, leaving one end attached to the banana.
2. Cut out & remove a wedge-shaped cavity from the length of the banana.
3. Fill cavity with mini-marshmallows & chocolate chips
4. Replace peel & wrap well in heavy duty foil.
5. Place on coals for about 5 minutes.
6. Open carefully & eat with a spoon right from the banana peel.
