l live in IL and have a valid FOID.l go camping in the summer to Wisconsin.What do l need to do in-order to legally bring my gun along on the camping trip, in-case we run into any wild animals or psychos ?

Its a good idea, but not legal in that state. Keep it out of sight.

Well obviously u will be out in the wilderness, l dont see to many people other then other hunters & campers so carry it on you. It defeats the purpose of having it in a bag somewhere when the time comes to use it. Where a long shirt & keep that puppy close at all times. l highly doubt if ur in a secluded area u will be bothered by the law, & most likely they will be by themselves & probably wouldnt want to fuss about someone protecting themselves, especially if they r alone with no back up, l know l wouldnt. Conceal it til u get out in the woods & then throw it on ur hip.

If you're camping in state parks, please note one huge difference between the parks in Illinois (and Missouri) & those in Wisconsin. Wisconsin charges a fee for entering its state parks, which keeps a lot of the riff-raff out. I've heard from friends who have been in southern Illinois or Missouri when the Meth heads decided to show up & party in the campgrounds. Not fun. The Wisconsin DNR is way more strict, & ur odds of running into random psychos while camping r pretty slim. l lived & camped there for 20 years.

Are u really expecting crazed wild animals to show up at ur campsite? If u utilize low-impact camping, & keep ur camp neat & clean, use bear boxes where they r available, u wo not have a need for a gun. Leave it at home & relax.

Keep the firearm packed away & unloaded until you're on the trail. Technically, in Wisconsin u can carry a firearm in public if it is not concealed.

National & state parks do not allow firearms. National & state forests usually do (in Florida). Be aware of the rules if u r going on public land.

Transporting Firearms in Motor Vehicles, Boats, or Aircraft. In general, no one may place, possess, or transport a firearm in a motor vehicle, motorboat, or aircraft unless the fire­arm is unloaded & in a carrying case. Loading or discharging a firearm in or from a vehicle is also prohibited [ss. 167.31 (2) (a) & (b), & (3) (a)].

Uhh, are you going hunting or camping?

The best thing for you to do is ask a local game warden or go to a wildlife and game building and ask them, they'd know the law best.
