l researched the unit so I am NOT looking for gear reviews.l want YOUR opinion if you've used one.

l avoid anything that requires batteries, so l considered but then immediately dismissed the MSR Miox as an option for myself, which is my answer to ur question. Other reasons l would have for avoiding this item, now that l think about it include that it takes up to half an hour to treat the water & l want water now, & that it must be refilled with salt at some interval & comes with disposable test strips for some reason, whether necessary for the function or not, that is way too complicated for me.

What l am into now is drinking straight from the creek or lake eliminating the need for any sort of filter altogether. l did try the UL AquaMira brand Frontier Pro inline/bottle top filter but found it severely lacking, so for now l still carry my heavy PUR Hiker filter. l just went backpacking a couple weeks ago & drank a couple bottles from the lake, so if l do not get Giardiasis in the next few days l will consider my experiment a success. What if, after my entire career backpacking it turns out contaminated water in the Sierra was all hype by the water filter industry?

l too dislike it because of the whole battery thing. The water tastes OK. l tested one a few years ago, but l thought it was just a high-tech toy for people too whimpy to deal with the taste of Iodine.

l still use my PUR Hiker. On trips where l think l may run out of water & need to hydrate immediately when l find a source, but if l am going to a place with a frequent & reliable cache of water sources, l just take a bottle of Polar Pure. l really have no issue with iodine. Unless the bottle breaks, it is almost impossible to run out of Polar Pure & l know it is killing giardia & crypto.
