Absolutely. It depends where u r in the world & what the rules r there.

For example, l used to live in Hong Kong where posession of ANY pocket knife will get u mandatory six months jail term, even for a first offence, with no previous convictions.

And in Sydney, Australia, where l now live, it is illegal to possess any concealed blade in public, including a pocket knife or cutter. However, if it is part of ur trade (for example, cutting open boxes in a warehouse, or if u normally work on a farming property, u r probably okay with the folding knife carried in a leather knife pouch on ur belt. (But no _hidden_ blades!)

Depends on where you are when you have it. Check with that state's/country is laws.

l believe you have to be 18 and the cannot fold. The maxiumum length for a folding knife is 3 and 1/2 inches. l believe it needs to be in a sheath. l do not think anyone will stress it especially if your in the middle of no where but be very careful in crowded campgrounds and do not advertise it. l personally think carrying a large knife in some cases is a very good idea especially if you are hiking you never know what sort of people you will meet.
