Beginning to plan a two week trip from Houston to Gettysburg and back, in September.Anybody have any must do/must see things and great places to camp (with a travel trailer) along the way.

We really like to hike/canoe/fish, visit bakeries, National Parks, and any and all historical battlefields (especially Civil War).We've seen several caverns, also like off the beaten path things.

One of the first places Id recommend is the Buffalo River in Jasper,Arkansas. Then go north on 7 find 62 then route to Mountain Home then to the Mississippi.cross then head east. Search Civil War sites & plot accordingly towards Gettysburg.Visit Antietam..Harpers Ferry..Youll be near the Blue Ridge Parkway. Look it up. Check the water levels in West Virginia. Go through Chambersburg, PA. There u have options to Gettysburg. Heres a canoeing website that might help southwestpaddler.com & another for the Buffalo buffaloadventures.com. If u do some research youll have a good trip. Stay away from I70 in Illinois etc.

Come to Cambridge, Ohio. We have Salt Fork State Park six miles away for camping. Or, if u want to be right off the interstate, there is Spring Valley Campground. In town, nationally famous Kennedys Bakery on Wheeling Avenue. Do not be fooled into going to Kennedy is Cakes & Pies on St. Rt. 209.upstart son is breakaway business. Not as good. Salt Fork has a nice camping beach, lots of hiking, great fishing, nice canoeing, & over 20 Geocaches hidden in the park. Cambridge is the home of Cambridge Glass, & there is a museum. There r lots of little antique/consignment stores. And in nearby Old Washington, there is the place where Morgan is Raiders met their end. They were in Old Washington, & the Union soldiers, having broken away from the main group hunting Morgan & his men, came upon the scene from above, & opened fire on the NORTHERN town from the town cemetery. Amazingly, no civilians were killed. Two confederate soldiers fell, & r burried in the cemetery above. There is a geocache there, too. Very cool old houses there. There is usually a cool festival going on somewhere in the area. Check out visitguernseycounty.com for all the details.

you can go-to stone mountain state park in north carolina. You can pulls campers up there and theres huge mountains to go hiking on
