Point Magoo in Malibu is nice. Calamigos Ranch in Calabasas is really nice and there are some down in Vista California (near Oceanside/San Diego). KOA in San Diego actually has log cabins (thats not really roughing it, but whatever).

Some of the Orange County Wilderness parks are nice too. We just had a great weekend at Casper is Wilderness Park. It is off Hwy 74 (Ortega Highway), and offers 35 miles of trails to hike, horse campsites too. Lots of great plants, critters, birds to check out.

The coastal live oaks there are gigantic and beautiful.
