My friends and l are thinking about going camping on the Northern Oregon coast next week, probably in or around Cape Lookout State Park, by Tillamook. Has anyone ever done this before? Is this a good idea or are we going to spend our time inside hiding from the rain and wind? We are also thinking about renting a yurt from the park, has anyone ever done this before? Are the yurts fairly warm and dry? Or, should we just tough it out and take a tent. l really appreciate any feedback from people who have had personal experience with any of this. I've researched this enough, no links please. Thank you.

l will warn that it does rain alot more there than here in seattle. bring lots of tarps. other than that, it is beautiful

l lived on the oregon coast for 18 years. A yurt will keep you warm and dry, but unless you are extremely lucky, you will spend most of your time hiding from the rain. Wind is more difficult to predict. If you get a sheltered location it should not be too bad, but if you're near the beach, it will almost certainly be howling.

l camp at Fort Stevens several times a year in Astoria,they also have all that u desire,the nice thing about that park is theres a museum there if the weather turns so theres something else to do,and seaside is only 19 miles away.You will probably be very cold,so bundle up . l have gone this time of year,and the days arent too bad,but the nights r brutal.Do yourself a favor & buy a propane heater,warm up ur Yurt with it but dont leave it on,and fire it up when youre getting drunk around the campfire.If u can tough it out,take a tent. l am a pureist when it comes to camping, l love the tent.Stayed in a Yurt once,it was kinda cool,but l prefer tents.The other nice thing about fort stevens is there r like 100 miles of bike trails there & a lake where u can catch some really nice sized trout if youre into that kinda thing.If u wish to know any more,feel free to email me.

you will have rain wind and cold..plan for that and you can have a good time

l was thinking the same thing, and called to check availability of yurts on the coast. There are no yurts available anywhere on the whole coast for the last week of March! It is a very common spring break week, l guess. THe guy on the phone at the reservation place said the yurts were all reserved months ago.

There are still tent sites available, but l am considering the same thing you are about camping in this weather. :)
