What l mean by 'real' camping is no bathroom, showers, RV's, etc. l wanna be out in the middle of nowhere. In order to eat, you have to catch it (fish l mean), use the river as my bath, dig a hole to use the restroom. That is what l call camping.
l live in MA and from what I've heard, there is not too many good places here. Where is the best place to go on the East Coast . . . . 'real' camping? lol No offense to anyone, please. l am looking to go sometime in the beginning of Aug.
Thank you!

Go to a state park or state/national forest. l like to stay at backpack campsites, where you have to hike everything in on your pack a few miles or more. You can always go to the mountains.

One of North America is largest designated wilderness areas is in the Adirondack is of New York. One of my favorite wilderness areas is north of you in Maine is Baxter State Park. You see, you do not have to go far to enjoy real wilderness camping. It is been a long time since I've done it. l envy you!

You live in a great area to look at the North end of the AT (Appalachian Trail). It runs from Georgia to Maine & passes through the West part of ur state. There r open areas, but there r some real wilderness areas also. l have backpacked through parts from GA to NY & really enjoyed it all. Several thousands start at Springer Mountain, in GA, every year about this time to ''Thru Hike'' to Mount Katahdin, in Maine. Most do not make it all the way, but learn & enjoy what they did. Most that backpack part of it, fall in love with & want more. Many of us r trying to find a way to take enough time off to ''Thru Hike'' it. Start by searching or Google for ''Appalachian Trail'' or go to http://appalachiantrail.org/ & follow the links for more information.

Wherever you want, whatever the conditions you wish, as long as we're alone & get to make love over & over, satisfied to the max. That will be great.

l would agree with capandy. l spent a week with one friend camping and fly fishing in the Adirondacks. We were in the area near Lake Placid, and along the AuSable and Salmon rivers. Beautiful country, good fishing, total wilderness camping. It was one of the best weeks of my life so far.

That sounds great, but please consult Leave-No-Trace guidelines before setting out on ur epic adventure.http://lnt.org/

Bathing in a lake or river & digging a place to poop is really frowned upon these days.

There r lots of places in the Northeast to go ''real camping''

There r wilderness areas in the Adirondack State Park in NY, The Green Mountain National Forest in VT & in the White Mountain National Forest in NH. Not to mention the countless tracts of Wilderness & remote area in Maine. The 100 Mile Wilderness in Maine would be ur best bet if u really want remote.

Go to the boundary waters in Minnesota and Wisconsin. There is an area where ''real'' camping was defined.

You must be somewhere near the Appalachian Trail.if that is too far in ur case, look for ''backcountry'' or ''primitive'' camping in the places u research. You may find a place that offers these kinds of campsites in addition to those with all the amenities.

Make sure u know what u r doing. The further away u get from civilization & other people, the more u must rely on ur own skills to stay comfortable & to keep trouble at bay.

Some basic skills:

How to build a fire & a shelter.

How to find safe food & water.

How to stay comfortable & safe in rain, heat and/or cold.

How to communicate with the outside world if u get in a jam.

How to recognize & treat common first aid situations including dehydration & hypothermia, sprains, cuts, & fractures, as well as poisoning & invenomation by a bee/wasp/snake.

How to navigate the wilderness if u leave the trail system.

Have fun. Roughing it is a great way to push yourself past ur personal limits. It is very therapeutic.

wherever you go is fine im surprised no one mentioned that you should have a buddy with you and let people know your approximate location in case anything happens.

l am going to offer a little different ''slant'' on my answer, from what u have already received. From ur question, it appears that u need some basic ''How to'' camp ideas. opposes to ''where to'' camp. OK. let is go. Someone mentioned a buddy. Most important. Get a buddy, preferably human. As u gain experience in camping. dogs *might* work, but they have trouble dialing 911, if u get into trouble, extremely rare, but.safety is as much a part of camping as sleeping in a tent. Tent. a shelter. At this stage, go with anything. You will learn what u like/dislike & upgrade. Sleeping bag, boots, small stove/fuel, backpack, food and.. WATER. These things will get u going. Obviously, there is a bunch other things u will need, but these r the basics.

l adivise this all the time & to some it may seem silly, but the Boy Scouts go camping ALL THE TIME. So. go buy a Boy Scout Handbook. It is full of information on ''How to'' start camping, hiking & backpacking. It even tells u how to dig holes to poop in. Now. how cool is THAT!!!

Try ur first camping experience in ur backyard or a campground with lots of people. Learn how to set up ur tent, wear ur new boots (a lot) to ''break'' them in. Familiarize yourself with all of ur gear. Learning to set up ur tent in a rainstorm is NO fun. l have seen people do that & lost interest in camping real quick.

Good luck. have fun.. BE SAFE!
