If you want to go camping near the beach, Leo Carrillo is really nice. It is in Malibu and you can walk to the beach from your campsite :]

Hi! I've camped at a couple of places u might like. Although there is not a lake, there is a seasonal stream through Caspers Wilderness Park in the Orange County Parks system. Many sites r wooded & shaded, & there r miles & miles of great hiking trails.

l also camped at Lake Casitas up near Ventura. The lake is a reservoir, so u cannot swim in it, but they do allow fishing & boating. l do not recall if the park itself has trails, but there r plenty of trails within a short drive. One bit of warning, however, the bathrooms were not so good! If u have a portable toilet of ur own, I'd recommend bringing it. When we were there, an anusual number of people were throwing their used TP on the floor NEXT to the toilet instead of IN it.

l would either suggest Mill Pond in Bishop, CA. The lakes are not to far away and there is plenty of hiking nearby. the June Lake loop is also really nice. Bishop is a wonderful place to camp.
