l recently went camping for the first time, and everyone on the trip froze. l had a friends sleeping bag, unzipped and over me and my book bag as a pillow. We slept on the tent floor, with a sheet of plastic under the tent. l was so cold and uncomfortable.

What can l do next time we go camping to be warm and comfortable?

Zip the sleeping bag up, it will keep you off of the cold ground and will trap in your body heat, sleeping in your underwear will also prevent sweating and getting cold later on.

If u have a good quality sleeping bag u should sleep in it zipped up around u like a cocoon. l have an old army down sleeping bag. When the bag is zipped up the top has just enough room for me to leave my face showing for breathing. You can sleep with a stocking cap on to keep the heat from ecaping from ur body also. Another trick is to buy an inexpensive sleeping pad to place under you. They r usually made of foam & r thick enough to insulate ur body against the cold ground. The ground, even on a warm night can suck the heat right out of u so make sure u never, never place a small child or small or young pets directly on the ground to sleep. It can be dangerous. Hope this is helpful..happy camping!

First thing u need to do, is get off the ground. Either a foam mattress, or an air mattress. Your body compresses the sleeping bag below you, & it is insulating air pockets r almost non-existant. The ground essentially sucks the heat out of you, trying to warm the ground below.

Second mistake many people make, is wearing too much clothing to bed. Believe it or not, the less u wear, the warmer u will be! Clothes trap warm air near ur body & do not let the bag warm properly. l learned this first hand in Arctic Survival school. First night l ignored those dumb instructors who told us to wear just a T-shirt & underwear to sleep in. l thought they were nuts, it is -30 in Alaska is interior! Froze my butt off..next night, l followed instructions, & u know what... l was WARM! Like the poster above, l had an arctic mummy bag, that left only my face exposed, & l wore a scarf around that. Do NOT put ur head in the bag, or the moisture from ur breath will dampen & chill the air as it cools. l have spent many warm comforatable nights even well below 0, by staying off the ground (pine needles make a great improvised mattress & insulator from the ground) & sleeping in appropriate attire. Do not overdress, & do not breathe into the bag. You will be fine! Do pay attention to the rating of ur bag though, not all sleeping bags r created equal. A quality bag rated to the temperature range u will be camping in will make a huge difference! Also, calories calories calories. When camping, especially in cold weather, ur body furnace needs more fuel. Carbs & lots of them will help a whole lot. Start the diet again when u get home. Good luck!

yes yes what they say.

but be ware that air matresses have cold air! so make sure theres either a foam pad or tons of blankets overtop that.

Bring blankets, comforters, feather pillows and a good tent. Remember to keep hands, feet and head warm to keep the rest of your body warm. Do not forget warm sweaters, rain jackets, warm pants, wooley socks and good shoes.

Frist buy your own bag it should go down to 20* at least. Then buy a heat sheet in camping dept at walmart And you might like to buy a pad that goes under the bag more comforty than the ground!Next time zip up the bag and get in it,you had no protection at all using it that way.Only in high summer. Then get yourself a small pillow and keep it with your sleeping bag. There you go.

Eskimos sleep naked together in sub zero weather for warmth. You must be married though.

Get an army cot at any army surplus store. It is wide enough for one person. You put your sleeping bag on this and it gets you off the ground. Bring a battery operated heater for the tent. Wear sweat pants and long socks. Or even better, BVDs, thermal underwear. Extra blankets for sure. And if all else fails, do not go when it is too chilly. Wait until end of June. Good luck and stay warm!
