I am going for a Teen Group multi-activity hike in the Grand Tuton mountains for 3 weeks.
We are going to be shifting gear around with a truck so weight and mass are not really a problem.
My backpack is a 60 liter sized sturdy ''sack high quality for 300$>:Z

My question is, how should l pack my bag?
-- l know that my sleeping bag, tent, and sleeping pad will be hanging/clipped on top of my pack, so exclude those.
-- Also l was told that l should pack my jacket and general light clothing at the bottom, with the heavy stuff on top, is that true?

thanks in advance for anwsering the question.

that sounds right. there always side pockets for your bug repelent and all the little junk you need *hygenic wise* like tooth brush tooth paste, kleenex, socks all that you know!

Keep the heaviest gear high on ur back. If u can, stuff ur sleeping bag in the very bottom of ur pack. The pad can go anywhere but u want ur load to be very secure. Use compression straps as much as possible. If ur load is shifting & bouncing while ur going down the trail it will be a miserable trip. Keep some munchies in a pouch that u can access without stopping. Keep ur poncho in a particular pocket & tell ur buddies to do the same. When the rain comes u do not have to drop ruck to suit up. Your buddy can reach into the pocket & u can do it for him. l wish l could convey more knowledge of this activity to you. The great outdoors is my sanctuary. Peace friend , & travel safe. Oh, by the way, l use two walking sticks. People poke fun but at the end of the day my knees & feet r in much better shape than theirs. It really does make a difference. contact me with any other ??

First, l would try to have a minimum of stuff hanging or clipped on the outside. It makes your pack less balanced and the weight distribution will be a bit messed up.

You want the heaviest things near the bottom of the pack.kind of right on your lower back. Your tent or bag (and food) are likely the heaviest things. Try to get them inside your pack near the bottom.

You do NOT want the heaviest stuff on top.that will suck and make you unstable.

Heavy stuff goes in the bottom of the pack - keeps it closer to ur center of gravity allowing u better balance, & it does not crush the gear below it in the pack.

Try to keep as much as u can inside the pack (not attached to the outside) to prevent loose swinging & allow damage to the gear. If u do attach items to the outside, use the compression straps to keep it tight without swinging.

Try to keep ur sandals (for water crossing), ur jacket/poncho & ur packs rain cover in an outer pocket for easy access when the weather demands it. Also in an outer pocket should be ur trail snacks & a light source if you're doing any night hikes.

l am jealous, ur trip sounds like a great time. And feel free to email me with any more questions.
