Actually, the whole ''up north'' thing in ur question is so very vague. l live in southern California. so here, some people call Santa Barbara ''up North.''. But l used to live in Wisconsin, & there, Canada was considered ''up North.''

Up north in Canada, l could run into black bear while camping. In Santa Barbara, l could run into mountain lions. In Canada, there r mosquitos. in Santa Barbara, there r rattlesnakes.

See where l am going with this? In order to give u an answer that is actually helpful, we need more information. :)

How far North would that be? You also need to know if u r walking & carrying ur stuff in which case it need to be as little & light as possible allowing for not freezing & keeping dry etc. so light weight water proofs, fleece jumpers, NO jeans. How long r u going for? Do u need to take all ur food or will u have access to a shop for fresh milk & bread etc? If u need to carry food, plan carefully, take packets instead of tins, things that take only minutes to heat or only need hot water added & nothing that needs to be kept chilled like meat, cooked meat, cheese. Give me more info & maybe l might be able to be of more help.

Ok Wife and l just got back from the Upper Peninsula. Town called Newberry. We have family up there her mom and brother.
Wife is a Upper lol. Full blooded.
Make sure you take some very good bug repellent LOL.
The Mosquito is are the worse that l have ever seen them this year up there.
They will try to eat you up lol.

If you go to Lake Superior, Make sure you take a heavy coat it is very cold there this year.
