l use to love tent camping, but as l got older l like the comforts of home like a real bed and a bathroom right with me. l do not see too many people over 50 years old still tent camping. But with a good tent and a nice sleeping pad, it is more fun. We have a 4x4 pickup with a 9&1/2' camper on it. We almost always go where there is not hookups and we have gotten into some pretty remote places with our camper, considering.

l am with you Josh, tent all the way. That, and what l can carry on my back or in my canoe as far away from civilization as one can get.

tarp, tent, motel - never have tried RV - have not figured out how to get one into backcountry sites on little narrow trails
wife wo not backpack with me so when l retire, might see about RV if she is willing to try it
Its not camping but it may be the only way to get her sort of outdoors

Having moved up a bit in years, I've found that l can not sleep comfortably on the ground anymore. However, l do not have the dollars necessary to purchase a nice RV such as a 5th wheel travel trailer / truck combo. So we're ''getting by'' with our 1996 Coleman Niagara pop-up tent trailer.

If l want to, l can still ''dry camp'' (camp without hookups) in the trailer, however for the most part we prefer to stay in RV parks where power is available. I've got ''sleep apnea so l need to have a machine with me when l sleep. Unfortunately, that machine requires power. Granted, l can (and have) use a 12 volt deep-cycle battery with an inverter to power my C-PAP machine for two or three nights, but there is always the possibility that the battery wo not last sufficiently long for my planned trip.

That being said. Even though we park the trailer in RV parks does not mean that we stay at the RV park. We typically get out & explore the area where we're staying.

l love sleeping in a tent listening to the sounds of the night. The sweet smell of the outdoors. l even like the sound that rain makes on the fly of the tent. It is so soothing it puts me right to sleep. l already have made sure the tent is in a good place so we do not get wet.The only problem is l have Chronic Lyme Disease / & can not sleep on the ground anymore. Sometimes l use my blow up mattress & sometimes we rent a cabin.
Believe me if l had the money l would buy a small camper & my daughter & l would travel & camp a lot more often than we do now.
No light pollution u can see all the stars & the big bright mother moon.
Susan
