I've been shopping around for a new backpack (more of a daypack) for hiking, and so far this seems to have what l need at a decent price (100 on Amazon). But, I am just wondering what those two loops are for on the bottom of the pack.It is not connected to where a sleeping bag would be attached to on the bottom, and l have no clue what it is for.

P.S. If anyone has any other suggestions for backpacks like this that are priced similar or cheaper, sound off.

Hmm. Maybe those straps r for water bottles?!.. l think I've seen people with waters attached to those straps but anyways it looks like a nice backpack for hiking & it looks great to carry things in. It is description seems very truthful & l think you'd be pretty good carrying this backpack for a hiking trip it should last u a long time!! l would also have to say ur ordering from a trusted manufactor! l also like Jansports because there very sturdy! But, good luck & remember to have fun!!!=]

hey man there is no real reason why they are there. they are just for anything you want to put there. l have a pack like that and l tie my rope bag to them.

The two loops on a day pack are for walking support sticks (over tricky terrain). They are like ski sticks and the pointed end goes into the loop and the other ends go through similar loops at the top of the pack. If you live in the UK, go to Millets. You should not spend more than about £30-£40 for a good pack.

Those loops are for ice axes. Some may use them for hiking poles. Some packs have adjustable loops that hold a sleeping pad. The Blackhawk is a military/swat pack, and is way heavier than you would need for regular hiking. Check out Deuter, Gregory or Osprey. True backpacking packs and much lighter.

Personally l would look into getting an Israeli defense force rapid mobilization pack and/or duffle combo. Then add to and/or build it the way you want it.

Far cheaper and better suited for what you are looking for.

Those loops are usually for holding skies, ice axes, or hiking poles - although rarely used for that purpose. They are usually used for grabbing and handling your pack. clip little things to them when traveling.

I'd look at moosejaw.com for alternatives to a daypack. $100 seems expensive for what l see there.

They r ice axe loops. Why a pack like that needs them. l do not know. They r not for water bottles & they do not hold trekking poles. The loops r bit too small to hold skis, but u might be able to get one through each loop. Personally, l think a lot of companies put the loops on simply for decoration.

For day hiking, a good backpack choice is a mid-weight hydration pack. GoLite, Camelback, The North Face, & Eastern Mountain Sports all have several styles. l have two such bags. One for longer, winter trips & another one l use on a daily basis for my job. l bought the AquaDay Hydration pack from Eastern Mountain Sports in 2001. l literally use it every day. It has enough room to carry a good sized first aid kit, a small thermos, rain suit, lunch, & various other goodies.plus 2qts of water in the bladder.

If u do not like the hydration system packs, lightweight day packs from The North Face, Kelty, & GoLite r all good choices too. l also like the fanny-packs from Mountainsmith. l have one of those too. l can get almost the same amount of junk in my Mountainsmith bag as l can fit into my AquaDay.
