Yes to PJs! Could be chilly at night. Food is a good idea, and something to cook it with - trangia stove or make a fire if the site allows, so take matches too.

Sleeping bag will work better than pajamas (plus l am not sure how comfortable will your friend feel if he has to sleep with your old pajama).
The food is important, so think about it. Light also. If you have one of those Swiss army knifes bring it, it is very helpful.

You will need to keep yourselves busy after the sun goes down, sitting around the camp fire getting shitfaced and talking shit is the usual thing.

Chances are you will freeze =)

if you will be more comfortable in pjs then go for it! But take a fleece or hoody also, just in case!

A sleeping bag will be a good idea, you can never have enough sleeping bags or blankets, sleeping in a tent isnt always too comfortable!

take snacks and a torch aswell.. and a mobile phone in case you're like me and can not stand sleeping outside and need to be picked up!

Camping essentials:
- Torch, preferably a winding torch, if not do not forget the batteries, count on one set of batteries for every 3 days
- toilet paper- dude, do not forget this, You do not want to wipe in the bushes
- warm clothes for the night ( a jacket will do )
-underwear
- sleeping bag
- Plastic bag for garbage ( bring it home with u or dispose of it in an appropriate manner, do not leave it there)
- Food, probably canned food, so do not forget a can opener if it is not easy opening
- pan & fork/knife/spoon
- small gas stove if u can not light a fire, matches or lighter
- swimming trunks if needed
- swiss pocket knife, (a mirror & compass if you're going in the wilderness - the mirror is to signal out in case u get lost)
- a small first aid kit, & l always take diarrhea pills
- u will probably want some soap, & maybe something to wash ur kitchen utensils
- beach towel

Guess if he is taking the tent and blankets then you get stuck with everything else. Take food, firewood, skeeter repellent, drinks, and cigars. Nothing beats a cigar around a campfire. Oh yeah, take some matches.
