just a bit of fun during cold weather camping whats the most you've worn in terms of clothes to keep warm, either during the day or at night when you were going to sleep in the tent

went night fishing many years ago(pre mobile phones) in the middle of winter with a friend, the temp was according to local forecast -7 centigrade ,dressed up with about seven layers but still freezing so we spent the night running in turns across the bridge for about 4 hours and no we did not catch any fish.

Hi,

A few things, such as my thermal underwear, T-shirts, a sweater, thick wooly socks. Loads of ''layers'' work

Good quality sleepy-bag

Most importantly a paraffin stove in the tent in mid-winter in Wales, Boyo

Dodgy but l can run away from flames, instead of freezing to death !

Call me crazy but it is true. If u have a very insulated mummy bag, u r better off in ur undies to keep warm. The more layers u wear, the more heat u keep near ur body, keeping the rest of the air in the bag cold. If u allow the heat to escape into the bag, it will insulate the entire bag & keep u warm. Keep the next day is clothes in the bottom so they r warm in the morning. However, l always wear a short sleeve shirt & shorts to bed, out of personal preference.

Very much like machman4 says. Another crucial point is to insulate ur body against the cold coming from the ground. Hence the need for a good thermal mattress.

In addition to technical underware (no thick layers!) l prefer a bandana around my neck & if needed, l can use it to cover both my head & neck. In case ur sleeping bag does not close tight enough, the bandana keeps u comfort against the chill just outside ur bag.

Always choose a sleeping back with lower designated temp that u think u would ever get to sleep in.

I.e. l bought a bag designed for -5 degrees C, even though l never go camping at winter. ( Except while in training by the Army, but that is another story)

l camp all the time..jeans are a no-no.
me personaly sleep in a tracksuit..not2thin..not2thick.
i also wear a warm hat & socks 2sleep in..this stops the heat escaping from your head&feet..and breath inside your sleeping bag.
take a hot water bottle.
and yes...sleep with your next days clothes(fold them tho). xx

When sleeping l stick to one layer regardless of the temperature. If l get cold l throw a heavy blanket on top of my sleeping bag. It not only adds warmth, but the weight of it pushes down on the corners of the sleeping bag where air would normally escape. This works great because l do not use a mummy bag and my toddler son sleeps with me.

l was camping near Taylor Reservior, Colorado, l had a long sleeve shirt, a hoodie, a hunting jacket, a beanie, longs johns, pants, 2 pairs of socks, boots on, and a sleeping bag that is what l had to sleep in; it sucked, very uncomfotable. That was in July but we were camping at 11,000 feet.

l live in Minnesota and it can get pretty cold out there in the winter time. The most l have ever worn was a pair or Lacross Ice King boots, a pari of wool socks, under armor pants, jeans, and Carhart Bibs. On my upper body l had on a hockey hat, a pair of goggels, a face mask, under armor shirt, t-shirt, long sleve t-shirt, a hoodie and my jacket. To top it all off l had a pair of chopers on. l was tosty warm when it was -40 out.
